Congratulations to Dr. Kandeel

Director of the Southern California Islet Cell Resources named recipient of the Arthur D. Riggs Distinguished Chair

Yesterday, City of Hope announced Fouad Kandeel, M.D., Ph.D., as the inaugural recipient of the Arthur D. Riggs Distinguished Chair in Diabetes & Metabolism Research. Dr. Kandeel is currently professor and chair of the Department of Clinical Diabetes, Endocrinology & Metabolism and chair of the Department of Translational Research & Cellular Therapeutics, as well as the associate director of the Diabetes & Metabolism Research Institute at City of Hope.

The announcement went on to state that "Dr. Kandeel has distinguished himself at City of Hope through a central role in the development and growth of a formal diabetes research program. He played a pivotal part in the evolution of this effort, as it grew from a program to a recognized center and now to its current structure as an enterprise-wide Institute. At the same time, Dr. Kandeel has maintained his international stature as a leader in the world of endocrinology research."

"Dr. Kandeel currently holds several key roles within the organization and this endowed chair should serve as further confirmation of his ongoing value to the institution and its mission. Dr. Kandeel will continue with his vibrant clinical and translational research program focused on type 1 diabetes, thyroid cancers and neuroendocrine disease... Dr. Kandeel will remain an active member of the clinical department and will remain as the chair of the Department of Translational Research & Cellular Therapeutics and the associate director of our Diabetes & Metabolism Research Institute where he will continue with his strong scientific efforts in basic, translational and clinical research, including overseeing the institute’s cell manufacturing and phase I diabetes clinical trials."
